Calgary Wedding Photographer | Redfern Photography bio picture

I'm Lisa Redfern, a photographer based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, specializing in weddings and portraits -- people are my primary subject. I shoot in a portrait journalist style, which is a combination of capturing moments as they happen, and posed portrait shots.

This all started for me in university, where I shot my first wedding in 1997, while I was studying photography (it was film and darkrooms back then!). Photography brings so much happiness not only to my life, but also to my clients. Being allowed in to peoples' lives and events is such a happy privilege, I feel very honoured to be capturing memories and sharing in special occasions.

My purpose in blogging is for my clients to have the chance to get to know me a bit better in the comforting glow of their own computer. I don't take myself too seriously, and want every session to be a fun experience for myself and my subjects while striving to capture beautiful images. The most frequent comment I get at the end of a shoot is "that was fun!", which is about the best compliment I could get.

You can also follow me on Twitter or Facebook. Thank you for visiting my site!

Corbin | Baby’s First Birthday

Just over a year ago, I did some maternity photos for Alexis and Blaine. I was thrilled to be invited back to shoot their baby Corbin’s first birthday! We were lucky to have a sunny and warm day in their back yard, with lots of little ones. One year olds are SO CUTE. Corbin is...

Baby Kaelyn | Calgary Family Photography

Yesterday afternoon I had a fun session with this family of three. We tried to get the dog in there for a number of the portraits, but he wasn’t cooperating! Baby Kaelyn, however, was all smiles and so patient for the photo-taking process. I probably shouldn’t say this, but it makes my job very easy...

Baby Leighton | Calgary Family Photographer

What a great day it was in Calgary today… windy, but the sun was so bright and we had wonderful, fluffy clouds floating across the sky. Yesterday was the first day of spring, which is my favourite season. Although I say that about fall when it comes around too, it’s kind of a toss-up between...

Baby Kaleb – Calgary Family Photographer

Yesterday I did a fun family session, which was with mom, dad, and three-month-old Kaleb. The Calgary weather didn’t cooperate so we didn’t get a chance to get everyone outside, unfortunately. At least there was lots of lovely bright morning light inside where it was warm. Here are a few, and there are even more...

Laura & Kyle Family Portrait Session

This was my last portrait session of the year (well, almost, we’re sneaking one engagement session in later this month!). It’s a challenge in Calgary because once the frost hits, all of the plants die and everything turns the same greyish, brownish, non-colour. The grass dies, the leaves shrivel on the trees, and it only...

Diane & Shawn’s Family

Over the last several months, I have been privileged to do three separate shoots for the same family: Diane’s maternity shots, newborn photos of Poet, and last weekend, a family session with the entire group. It was a unique opportunity to really have everyone get very comfortable with me, and to get used to seeing...
