Calgary Wedding Photographer | Redfern Photography bio picture

I'm Lisa Redfern, a photographer based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, specializing in weddings and portraits -- people are my primary subject. I shoot in a portrait journalist style, which is a combination of capturing moments as they happen, and posed portrait shots.

This all started for me in university, where I shot my first wedding in 1997, while I was studying photography (it was film and darkrooms back then!). Photography brings so much happiness not only to my life, but also to my clients. Being allowed in to peoples' lives and events is such a happy privilege, I feel very honoured to be capturing memories and sharing in special occasions.

My purpose in blogging is for my clients to have the chance to get to know me a bit better in the comforting glow of their own computer. I don't take myself too seriously, and want every session to be a fun experience for myself and my subjects while striving to capture beautiful images. The most frequent comment I get at the end of a shoot is "that was fun!", which is about the best compliment I could get.

You can also follow me on Twitter or Facebook. Thank you for visiting my site!

Sarah & Jeremy Engagement Photos at the Rundle Ruins

This session was the same night as the Calgary Stampede Sneak-a-Peek, which probably wasn’t the best night to try to find parking at the Rundle Ruins park — it is within a very short walk of the Saddledome and the Calgary Stampede grounds. Parking was at a premium.
Still, we prevailed, and managed to capture some...

Aspire & Tracy | Calgary Wedding Photos In The Rain, Chinese Cultural Centre

You’ll notice I talk about the ever-changing Calgary weather a lot in this photography blog. When you’re an on-location shooter, weather heavily influences sessions. Sometimes in a good way that presents unique opportunities, and sometimes in a bad way that limits what you can do. Either way, we are all at the mercy of whatever...

Amanda & Tyler | Calgary Engagement Photographer

The session with Amanda and Tyler was the second of my photographic forays into Reader Rock Garden this year. I really love it as a location, Calgary is pretty dry and it is the only place around here where I have seen actual ferns growing!
I had a lot of fun shooting these two, Amanda’s wishes...

Kevin & Jalyn | Calgary Engagement Photography

Reader Rock Garden is a gorgeous oasis in the middle of Calgary, with lush gardens and a path up to a historic house (which is now a cafe). It’s close to the Calgary Stampede Grounds, and it’s amazing how many people don’t know it’s there. I only found out about it after I was watching...

Ashley & Craig | Calgary Wedding Photographer

Well, it’s definitely wedding season! For some reason I have ended up with the long weekend off coming up (not that I am complaining). However, nearly every other weekend this summer, I have a wedding to shoot. Having them one after the other like this highlights the differences between families, ceremony styles, and brides/grooms themselves....

Ashley & Craig | Calgary Engagement Photography

Tuesday evening I got together with Ashley and Craig for a pre-wedding e-session. I met Craig for the first time as he’s recently returned from serving overseas. When they booked me last winter to photograph their wedding, I only met with Ashley.
I’m really happy that they went for the engagement session even though their...

Jody & Dean | Calgary Wedding Photography

On Sunday morning, I was privileged to be a part of a small and intimate wedding at Lougheed House here in Calgary. When Jody originally contacted me about the possibility of photographing their wedding, I confessed to her that had my husband and I gotten married in Calgary, it probably would have been at that...

Heather & Greg Engagement – Calgary Photography

On Sunday afternoon I did a session downtown with Heather & Greg, whose wedding I’ll be shooting next year. It wasn’t too cold, and surprisingly busy down there! Usually downtown = ghost town on weekends. I had a really hard time choosing a few for this “sneak peek”, but finally managed to narrow it down....
