Calgary Wedding Photographer | Redfern Photography bio picture

I'm Lisa Redfern, a photographer based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, specializing in weddings and portraits -- people are my primary subject. I shoot in a portrait journalist style, which is a combination of capturing moments as they happen, and posed portrait shots.

This all started for me in university, where I shot my first wedding in 1997, while I was studying photography (it was film and darkrooms back then!). Photography brings so much happiness not only to my life, but also to my clients. Being allowed in to peoples' lives and events is such a happy privilege, I feel very honoured to be capturing memories and sharing in special occasions.

My purpose in blogging is for my clients to have the chance to get to know me a bit better in the comforting glow of their own computer. I don't take myself too seriously, and want every session to be a fun experience for myself and my subjects while striving to capture beautiful images. The most frequent comment I get at the end of a shoot is "that was fun!", which is about the best compliment I could get.

You can also follow me on Twitter or Facebook. Thank you for visiting my site!

Sarah & Jeremy Engagement Photos at the Rundle Ruins

This session was the same night as the Calgary Stampede Sneak-a-Peek, which probably wasn’t the best night to try to find parking at the Rundle Ruins park — it is within a very short walk of the Saddledome and the Calgary Stampede grounds. Parking was at a premium.
Still, we prevailed, and managed to capture some...

Mark & Debbie | Calgary Engagement Photographer

One last engagement session to post for now, it’s been a bit of a marathon! Here are a few images as a sneak peek for Mark and Debbie from their session on a lovely evening in Confederation Park here in Calgary. It’s easy to tell how in love these two are, they didn’t mind any...

Aspire & Tracy | Calgary Engagement Photography

Another engagement session! This time, Aspire and Tracy. We enjoyed a nice evening in Confederation Park (one of my favourites). These two are super cute and came SO prepared to the session (with a change of clothes, each). Super easy to work with, it was a pleasure strolling around, even though we got bitten by...

Amanda & Tyler | Calgary Engagement Photographer

The session with Amanda and Tyler was the second of my photographic forays into Reader Rock Garden this year. I really love it as a location, Calgary is pretty dry and it is the only place around here where I have seen actual ferns growing!
I had a lot of fun shooting these two, Amanda’s wishes...

Ashley & Craig | Calgary Engagement Photography

Tuesday evening I got together with Ashley and Craig for a pre-wedding e-session. I met Craig for the first time as he’s recently returned from serving overseas. When they booked me last winter to photograph their wedding, I only met with Ashley.
I’m really happy that they went for the engagement session even though their...

Jody & Dean | Calgary Engagement Photographer

This afternoon I had the pleasure of meeting with Jody & Dean for a fun outdoor engagement session… here’s your first look at some of their photos!

The one on the left looks like it was taken in the autumn instead of spring to me, since some of the trees still have berries(?) on them. Spring...

Why Engagement Photos Are Important

My base wedding package always includes engagement photos — there’s no discount for skipping an engagement session. Many couples mention that they don’t know if they really want or need engagement photos, especially if they’ve been engaged for a while.
On the other hand, I also speak with some couples who have specific purposes in...

Heather & Bryan – Engagement

This past weekend here in Calgary was optimal for photos — fall leaves, and warm weather with beautiful sunshine. I had a number of photo sessions and was extremely glad the weather cooperated. During one shoot at Confederation Park, I counted at least six wedding parties there at the same time, each with their photographers...
