Calgary Wedding Photographer | Redfern Photography bio picture

I'm Lisa Redfern, a photographer based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, specializing in weddings and portraits -- people are my primary subject. I shoot in a portrait journalist style, which is a combination of capturing moments as they happen, and posed portrait shots.

This all started for me in university, where I shot my first wedding in 1997, while I was studying photography (it was film and darkrooms back then!). Photography brings so much happiness not only to my life, but also to my clients. Being allowed in to peoples' lives and events is such a happy privilege, I feel very honoured to be capturing memories and sharing in special occasions.

My purpose in blogging is for my clients to have the chance to get to know me a bit better in the comforting glow of their own computer. I don't take myself too seriously, and want every session to be a fun experience for myself and my subjects while striving to capture beautiful images. The most frequent comment I get at the end of a shoot is "that was fun!", which is about the best compliment I could get.

You can also follow me on Twitter or Facebook. Thank you for visiting my site!

New disc packaging! | Calgary Photographer

I’ve realized I didn’t make even one post at all in February! I’ve been super busy booking weddings for this summer and fall. September’s been a very popular month for brides and grooms in 2010, and June as well. Unfortunately I’ve had to turn quite a few couples away due to being booked already, but...

Why Engagement Photos Are Important

My base wedding package always includes engagement photos — there’s no discount for skipping an engagement session. Many couples mention that they don’t know if they really want or need engagement photos, especially if they’ve been engaged for a while.
On the other hand, I also speak with some couples who have specific purposes in...

Heather & Bryan – Calgary Wedding Photography

As I mentioned in my previous post, the wedding I shot on Saturday was one of the coldest ever! I did an engagement session with Heather and Bryan a couple of months ago, and it seems like hardly any time had passed until it was their wedding. It was a beautiful day, and Heather and...

The Holidays Are Here!

I shot a wedding on Saturday, probably on the coldest day I have ever been outside for photography. It was around -30C (that’s -22F to you south of the border), with a windchill making it quite a bit colder. The bride was determined (and brave!), and with bare arms, neck, and ankles, smiled and posed...

Heather & Greg Engagement – Calgary Photography

On Sunday afternoon I did a session downtown with Heather & Greg, whose wedding I’ll be shooting next year. It wasn’t too cold, and surprisingly busy down there! Usually downtown = ghost town on weekends. I had a really hard time choosing a few for this “sneak peek”, but finally managed to narrow it down....

Laura & Kyle Family Portrait Session

This was my last portrait session of the year (well, almost, we’re sneaking one engagement session in later this month!). It’s a challenge in Calgary because once the frost hits, all of the plants die and everything turns the same greyish, brownish, non-colour. The grass dies, the leaves shrivel on the trees, and it only...

Diane & Shawn’s Family

Over the last several months, I have been privileged to do three separate shoots for the same family: Diane’s maternity shots, newborn photos of Poet, and last weekend, a family session with the entire group. It was a unique opportunity to really have everyone get very comfortable with me, and to get used to seeing...

Heather & Bryan – Engagement

This past weekend here in Calgary was optimal for photos — fall leaves, and warm weather with beautiful sunshine. I had a number of photo sessions and was extremely glad the weather cooperated. During one shoot at Confederation Park, I counted at least six wedding parties there at the same time, each with their photographers...
