Calgary Wedding Photographer | Redfern Photography bio picture

I'm Lisa Redfern, a photographer based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, specializing in weddings and portraits -- people are my primary subject. I shoot in a portrait journalist style, which is a combination of capturing moments as they happen, and posed portrait shots.

This all started for me in university, where I shot my first wedding in 1997, while I was studying photography (it was film and darkrooms back then!). Photography brings so much happiness not only to my life, but also to my clients. Being allowed in to peoples' lives and events is such a happy privilege, I feel very honoured to be capturing memories and sharing in special occasions.

My purpose in blogging is for my clients to have the chance to get to know me a bit better in the comforting glow of their own computer. I don't take myself too seriously, and want every session to be a fun experience for myself and my subjects while striving to capture beautiful images. The most frequent comment I get at the end of a shoot is "that was fun!", which is about the best compliment I could get.

Jody & Dean | Calgary Wedding Photography

On Sunday morning, I was privileged to be a part of a small and intimate wedding at Lougheed House here in Calgary. When Jody originally contacted me about the possibility of photographing their wedding, I confessed to her that had my husband and I gotten married in Calgary, it probably would have been at that venue. I think it’s a beautiful location, and there is something magical and elegant about a historic home in a city where nearly all of the buildings are no more than 30 or 40 years old. So I was pretty excited to get to attend a wedding there, and even better, to be the photographer.

Jody and Dean have been together for a while, and decided it was time to get married. So it felt very lovely, peaceful and beautiful, and at the same time special and remarkable. They are so comfortable and easy to get along with, a Calgary wedding photographer couldn’t ask for a more easy to photograph couple. Here are a few of the images from their day!

In the above right photo, I noticed a closed door with light spilling out underneath it. I probably wasn’t supposed to open it, but was delighted to find a funky little mini-room with old peeling wallpaper and a window. So cool.

Thank you both so much for letting me share in your special day — it was lovely and I hope the rest of your day was as great.
